WCA Peninsula Meeting Notes - featuring PAT KEEFE

Pat Keefe gave a dynamic artist presentation at the WCA Peninsula March meeting. She began her artistic endeavors in painting and bronze casting.  Initially, Pat attended college to study nursing but later advanced to art therapy.

A highlight of Pat’s presentation was her story about a door and it’s frame that she towed around in her Jeep Wagoner to make photographs at many varied locations around the Bay.  They included the DeYoung Museum and the Pacific Coast beaches.  The door project became an integral part of her college art studies and a sculptural exhibit.  This portfolio was an inspiration to those in attendance.

One of Pat’s other art projects were life-size paper dolls that she constructed from objects that tell her story. Luckily for our members, besides having wonderful pictures of the full size dolls, she had a set of the original small size paper dolls to pass around for each person to handle and to admire the feminine perspective. (See inset picture.)

As a fellow artist, I came away with a message from Pat’s presentation.   Anything is possible.  We want to let our artistic journeys flow from within ourselves.

The March meeting was held in The Peninsula Museum of Art Library, Burlingame, and a potluck lunch provided by members followed.

Yosemite Museum Gallery,  February 28 – May 10, 2015
Headwaters Eastside
Kings Art Center, Hanford,  June – July, 2015
Carnegie Arts Center, Turlock, August – September, 2015

Yosemite Renaissance is an annual juried competition/exhibition intended to encourage diverse artistic interpretations of Yosemite. Its goals are to bring together the works of serious contemporary artists that do not simply duplicate traditional representations; to establish a continuum with past generations of Yosemite artists; and to help re-establish visual art as a major interpretive medium of the landscape and a stimulus to the protection of the environment. Historically, the arts have played a very important role in the establishment of our State and National Parks. It is our hope that they can be just as important in future efforts to preserve and protect that heritage. More information at   info@yosemiterenaissance.org.
