Peninsula Women’s Caucus for Art - Art Exhibition “Aftermath”

The Coastal Arts League Museum and Gallery will present works of the Peninsula Chapter of the Women’s Caucus for Art. 

The exhibition titled “Aftermath” will be curated by WCA President, Karen Gutfreund and on view from September 2 to October 3, 2011 at the Gallery, 300 Main Street in Half Moon Bay. 
   

The reception with the artists will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2011 from 5-7 pm. This event is free and open to the public.   

Gallery hours are Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 1-5 pm.

When the members of the Peninsula Women’s Caucus for Art chose “Aftermath,” it was with a common consensus that the appropriate title was chosen for the tenth anniversary of September 11, 2001.  The theme “Aftermath” brought up many reactions from the artists; and it was decided that the work could be personal, political or interpreted by each individual’s perspective. The perspectives vary from dark, judgmental and personal to new life, hope, preserve and rebuild. The art created for the exhibit is emotionally moving and showcases the depth of talent of the Peninsula Women’s Caucus for Art.

Bonnie J. Smith's fiber art work "Color x 3" was juried into Quilt National 2011

 

Bonnie J. Smith's fiber art work "Color x 3" was juried into Quilt National 2011.  The opening took place on May 27, 2011 in Athens, Ohio at the Dairy Barn Art Center where it will be exhibited thru September 2011.  Quilt National 2011 will then travel thru out the United States and Europefor two years.  Finally, she is able to let the world see a photograph of her work. 

 

Bonnie's fiber art works (Control, Color x 3 orange and Images Deconstructed)  will be featured in Penthouse #2201 at Three Sixty Residencies, San Jose. 

 

Three of her art works from the installation "Thoughts of the Mind, Interpretations in Indigo" will be featured in the juried exhibit "Fabricated"at Blue Line Gallery, Sacramento, Ca. July 9th - August 3rd, opening on July 16, 2011.

Felicia Forte's Drawing Workshop at The Disney Family Museum

I will be the Guest Instructor for an afternoon of sketching from live animals! 

Every month the Walt Disney Family Museum in the Presidio, features one Disney movie. For June it is Bambi.
So as Walt Disney brought in real animals, and fine artists to help his animators create more realistic
animations of the forest creatures, so will we be sketching animals from life! Goats, sheep, and other
such petting zoo animals!! And there will also be a separate stable of animals just to pet, bring the kiddies!

oh yes, its free, and they provide supplies!

“Visions of Childhood”

Peninsula Women’s Caucus for Art - Art Exhibition “Visions of Childhood”

Belmont, California, April 18, 2011 – The Peninsula Chapter of the Women’s Caucus for Art presents a member exhibition titled “Visions of Childhood.”  Curated by WCA President, Karen Gutfreund, the exhibit highlights the work of California women artists. The exhibition will be held from May 14, 2011 through July 9, 2011 at the Avenue 25 Gallery, San Mateo. The public reception and opportunity to meet the artists will be heldon Saturday, May 14, from 2-4 pm. This event is free and open to the public.  Gallery hours are Mondays through Fridays from 9 am to 5 pm.

“Visions of Childhood” include artwork by 16 women artists.  The works on display cover a broad range of media, including painting, mixed media, textiles and photography. The artists with diverse perspectives of their work express the theme for the exhibit.

Cosette Dudley says “The theme “Visions of Childhood” was chosen because our venue for the show has offices to which mothers and children frequently come.  That being the case, we thought we should do images this time that might interest the children and their mothers passing through.  We decided to include a collaborative "Diaper Piece", to which each artist could contribute an artwork diaper, with all diapers to be assembled in some interesting manner on the wall.  I, personally, love the theme and the idea of collaborating on diapers.  The past, and themes from my own childhood, have formed a body of art work I have done and keep returning to.”

Fiber and mixed media artist, Bonnie Smith, was inspired for the artwork by a photo of her mother and herself.  She combined textile, photography, appliqué and machine stitching.

Nancee McDonell made a collage using colors and shapes that reflect her thoughts. “Visions of Childhood - A time of imagination, carefree play and happiness is my ‘ideal’ vision of childhood.”

Studio and Galleries, Belmont. The Museum is at 10 Twin Pines Lane,
Twin Pines Park, Belmont , CA.

"Coastal Fogs" is an oil painting inspired by the Pacific Fog Bank as
it streamed over the mountain ridges beyond Canada College, in San
Mateo County. The painting  is in the Peninsula Museum's private
collection.
