COLOR ENERGY:
WHAT COLOR IS YOUR ENERGY?
“The purest and most thoughtful minds are those which
love color the most,” wrote English art critic John Ruskin. Love of color is evident in this show of
artwork by a group of 20 Bay Area artists.
The exhibit,
"Color," by members of Women’s Caucus for Art, Peninsula Chapter, will
be on view from April 5 to May 6 at the Coastal Arts League Gallery &
Museum, 300 Main Street in Half Moon Bay. A reception with the artists will be held on
Saturday, April 13, 5 to 7 pm.
Painter,
Alysanne McGaffey, shows a love of color in her luminous piece, “Forest Fire
Red.” It is based on childhood memories of a cabin the forest. “…the cabin in the woods was built of cedar
and we used kerosene lanterns for lighting.”
If
you ask Francine Survilo why she used the colors red and green in her painting
of a ship of sheep at stranded at sea, she would probably tell you that she was
guided by a feeling rather than a thought.
Bonnie
J. Smith's work "Blue Flow," will also be shown at her solo
invitational exhibit "What I See and Know at The Loft Gallery,
San Pedro, California in the month of March along with thirty-four of her
colorful abstract artworks.
Leigh Toldi says of her pen
and ink drawing, “Even an inkling of color energizes a black and white world.” Rebecca Lambing’s painting
“Transcending Aqua,” is a study in pure color.
“Color” is curated by Bonnie
J. Smith and Marian Yap, president of Women's Caucus for Art, Peninsula
Chapter. The artworks shown will range
from painting and sculpture to fiber art and photography.
