Museums
collect. It is the defining characteristic of a “museum.” Okay, so that isn’t
big news, but what is not always known is how and why do museums collect what
they do? Once collected, how do museums preserve and protect the works in their
care? And of more immediate application, how do museum collecting methods apply
to my own personal collection? Please join
us Monday March 31, 8:00-9:30 a.m. for our next Coffee with the Curator as Chief
Curator Preston Metcalf gives you a behind the scenes peek at the ins and outs
of museum collecting.Learn how
collecting decisions are made, how the works are cared for, the responsibilities
of collecting, how museums deal with collection growth and change, how these
collections in public trust benefit our community, and tips on caring for your
own art collection. This presentation will coincide with the exhibition, Contemporary Heritage: Selections from the Permanent
