MEETING REPORT: : Mike Wong's seminar on photographing artwork

April's WCA Peninsula meeting took place on Tuesday the 21st, and included an exceptionally helpful and informative presentation by Coastal Arts League member Mike Wong, who also co-owns Spring Mountain Gallery in Half Moon Bay. Mike is a professional photographer with decades of experience photographing everything from weddings to artwork. In his presentation he demonstrated how to adjust camera settings to get the best possible photographs when photographing artwork for the purpose of submission to shows, placement on websites and any other digital media use.

In addition to specific camera settings, Mike emphasized the importance of other components of set-up. These included the use of a tripod and easel, the use of the self-timer feature, taping down the edges of paper against a white background, and many other tips. Lighting, aperture and speed settings were all discussed and WCA members came away with a treasure trove of information and some great new ideas on how to improve the photographic presentation of their artwork for competitions and websites.

Mike's handout is reproduced below.
