WCA Members on The Recent Impressionist Exhibits in San Francisco

Kendra Davis and I attended the Post Impressionist exhibit at the deYoung Museum this week. It was marvelous to see these works although I wished there weren't so many people so I could really look at the paintings at my own pace. It was so crowded and I wondered why I had waited so long to book tickets. I also went to the Japanesque exhibit at the Legion of Honor, which was equally crowded. There is a downside to this artwork being so popular. On my blog, I noted that the prints made by the European and American artists were of more interest to me because one could see the influence that the Japanese printmakers had on their subsequent work and how it generated a new interest in printmaking. So much has been written about this period in the world of art but it seems that there is always something new to see and something new to learn.

From Claire Erlin: The Post Impressionism and Beyond at the De Young was wonderful and Inspiring. I went with 2 family members and loved thebig John Singer Sargent portrait of the colorful Spanish dancer visible before you even enter the show part of the gallery! The whole show was simply beautiful and the recorded tour was definitely a must do, well worth it!
